Nearly another year has passed since I wrote my last blog. To recap, after finishing my studies at Wittenberg University I went to California and spent the summer at Mills College at the Arabic School where I underwent an intensive Arabic language program for two months. There I gained a sound conversational proficiency in Modern Stand Arabic. The one problem was that not all Arabic-speakers are familiar with the academic Arabic and many only know their own variation or regional dialect, something I will still need to work one. It's interesting because when I was studying Arabic at Wright State University, my tutor, Michelle from Kuwait, did not consider himself "fluent" in Arabic even though he grew up speaking it because he couldn't actually communicate with all other Arabic-speakers.

After leaving California, I return home to Traverse City, MI, where I got temporary work in order to save up some money and move to New York. This is where I am now. We recently moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan as the area in Brooklyn, Flatbush, was not the most enjoyable. The area I live in now is known as Inwood. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the area in general, it's in upper Manhattan west side near Crown Heights around 200 street. Times Square is at 42 street to get a better idea.
Since moving to the city I have done a lot of exploring, relaxing, and some job hunting. Had a couple jobs in direct sales and food but decided that it wasn't something I was particularly interested in. A little more will be written about those but I just wanted to make the first post before getting into detail about everything else.
We've been in New York since March 1, 3 months now, and done things from checking out rooftop bars to festivals to obscure events and much more. I will try to write weekly.
